This image was created from a 40 year old photograph of my grandfather that was only about 3” x 2” inches in size. The photograph was scanned into a digital format, then a variety of software and woodworking techniques were used to create this piece.
Halftone is a process were the surface of the wood is painted, followed by very tiny holes of all different sizes being drilled into to the wood to create an image. The image looks like a very low resolution black and white TV. The final product that is created is quite unique and artistic in nature. This is something that needs to be seen in person to truly capture the distinct look that is created.
Each Halftone image has over 10,000 holes made to create the final image.
